1. Making a Dial Up Connection
1. Confirm that your modem is connected to the computer and switched on.
2. Click the "Start" menu
3. Click the "Control Panel" option.
4. The Control Panel can open in either Category view or Classic view, as shown below.

| 5. If you are using the Category view, click the "Network & Internet Connections" icon as shown above. |
8. If you are using the Classic view, click the "Network Connections" icon as shown above. |

click the "Network Connections" icon in the window that
appears. |

Double click the "Create a New Connection" option at the top left of
the window that appears. |

9. Either stream above will start the "New Connection Wizard". Click "Next"
10. Select the radio button "Connect to the Internet" as shown. Click "Next"
11. Select the radio button "Set up my connection manually". Click "Next"
12. Select the radio button "Connect using a dial up modem". Click "Next"
13. Enter a name for the connection eg "Internet Connection". Click "Next"
14. Enter the dialin phone number for internet connection. Click "Next"
15. Enter your username and password. Click "Next"
- Please note that passwords are case sensitive. ( Uppercase &
lowercase characters must be typed as such.)
16. Select the tick box "Add a shortcut to this connection on my desktop". Click "Finish"
17. Click "Properties"
18. Ensure the settings under the General tab
are as shown. Click the "Options" tab.
19. Ensure the settings under the Options tab are as shown. Click the "Security" tab.
20. Ensure the settings under the Security tab are as shown. Click the "Networking" tab.
21. Click "Settings"
22. Untick "Enable software compression" and "Negotiate multilink...". Click "OK".
23. Back in the "Connection Properties" dialog box, as shown in
step 21, select the "Internet Protocol" then click "Properties".
24. Use the radio buttons to select.
- Obtain an IP address automatically.
- Obtain DNS server automatically
Click "Advanced".
25. Under the General tab, untick "Use IP header compression". Click "OK".
Stage 2 - Connecting to the Internet
1. Ensure your modem is connected to the PC and switched on, then double
click the Dialup Connection icon on the desktop.
2. Ensure your account details and the phone
number to dial are correct.
Click "Dial".
3. The modem will start to dial and the graphic shown above will display.
4. The system will verify your account details.
5. When you have connected, the small Connection Icon shown circled above
will be displayed at the bottom right of your screen.
6. When you wish to disconnect from the Internet, double click the Connection
Icon shown above, then click "Disconnect".
