FTP Using CoffeeCup Free FTP (Windows)
Download CoffeeCup
- Download CoffeeCup Free FTP from
http://twmba.net/files/Windows/Ftp/
.
It downloads as a .zip file, so you'll also need WinZip
(available at the same place) to decompress it.
- Install CoffeeCup, launch the program, and
add a new server (Servers > Add New Server). The window
for adding a new FTP Server looks like this:

NOTEYou need to have ftp access enabled on the server,
send mail to admin@twmba.net
- Carefully fill in the server information:
- Name:
this is what's displayed in the Servers Menu. It doesn't
matter what you enter here.
-
Hostname:
this is the address of your web server.
ie. twmba.net
- You will need to enter a
Username and
Password.
They should be the same as your email
account username and password.
-
Local Starting Directory:
this is a folder on your hard drive where you'll be
saving web stuff before porting it to the server
(consider it a backup folder).
-
Remote Starting Directory:
this is the name of your folder on the server (as
illustrated above, leave it blank).
-
Checking the Firewall Friendly operation
(Passive Mode) box, may help performance.

- Uploading and Downloading
-
Click on the "Servers" menu and select one of
the sites you have set up.
-
This connects you to the internet web page
server.
-
On the left side of the window are the
contents of your local computer ("Local Starting Directory"
in the setup illustration above).
-
On the right side of the window are the
contents of your assigned directory on the internet web
page server.
-
NOTE
: When creating web documents in some word
processors (e.g. Word), it's necessary to close the file
(File Menu > Close) or you might get an error message
"Unable to open local file..." when attempting to upload
file.
-
Dragging something from the local computer side
to the web server side copies the item onto the web server.
Once there, the file is accessible from the Internet with a
web browser.
-
Be sure to keep earlier generations of your
work backed up on the hard drive of your own computer.
